Case Study

For over 14 years Manumission has produced one of Ibiza’s biggest and most talked about summer events. What sets them apart is the scale and effort that go into each annual production.
Every year the Manumission campaign has a theme and for 2008 it was the “Coney island Review”, a wink to the major resort and amusement parks in New York that reached its peak in the early 20th century.

After the success of our previous collaboration in 2007, Hijackstudio was brought in to work with Manumission’s Art directors (and co-owners) Mike and Claire to produce the print campaign (posters, billboard et all…) a new website and edit the films for the shows.

MANUMISSION CLUB EVENT

Initial stages, working on location with Claire and photographer / director Phil Silcock during the photo-shoot for the campaign.

The seasonal passes were one of the first things we worked on. We also played with this layout for the general billboard which incorporated all the characters of the show.

For the Manumission logo, we started playing with the theme of Coney Island customizing the “M” in different ways.

We developed various ideas for a hype campaign:
One playing with the idea of a heart shape and the word ‘mission’ from out of Manumission.

The second idea and the one that was chosen was based on the ‘ Coney Island ‘ theme. Manumission invites special performers to the event every week, so we decided to create a series of posters promoting a big mysterious show that would be coming to town called ‘Coney Island Review’.

We created a hype website to bring the posters, the show, and eventually Manumission, once the campaign was launched.

This year, Hotrod magazine dedicated a full issue to Manumission giving us the chance to work with Jan Walaker (Editor / Art director) on the design of the cover. The magazine featured some of the artwork we created for Manumission over the past two years.
